Signs, sounds combine at DCI
To read about DCI, one must explain DCI. And to explain what DCI is some have attempted to generalize it as marching band on speed.
Drum Corps International has been around several decades, with about 24 groups of musicians touring the country each summer to put on a professional-quality marching band shows that become highly competitive.
Several students from Lake Dallas High School decided they wanted a part of the summer competitions and joined up with top corps. In doing so, it only makes their musician resumes look that much better to prospective employers and future teachers, one of many reasons people join a corps. Others join up because its fun and don’t plan to pursue music beyond that of the corps.
Courtney Whitehead, 19, is one such corps member. She’s a second-year marimba player who just graduated from Lake Dallas High School - Class of 2010 and plans to study music education at the University of North Texas this fall. Whitehead joined the Blue Knights, which in the percussion world, is one of the best she could have hoped for. She lives in Corinth.
