Drusch retires after 19 years at LDISD

After 19 years of school board meetings, discussions and planning, Sandra Drusch has decided to step down from her position as president of the Lake Dallas Independent School District.
Once a stay-at home mother, Drusch decided to join the board after a bond election was being held in regards to a new high school.
“I’ll miss being on the board and the staff I worked with,” Drusch said. “I have a passion for education and to watch this district change has really been special.”

Corinth resident arrested

Corinth resident Glenn Darden has finally been put behind bars.
The 41-year-old Darden currently sits in the Denton County jail with bail set at more than $100,000 after he was arrested for crimes he committed in 2011.
Darden is accused of attacking a 90-year-old woman as she slept in her apartment in a senior living facility in Denton in the early morning hours of Oct. 8, 2011.

Lacrosse participation, interest grows in LC

The sport of lacrosse has begun to take North Texas by storm, and residents of the Lake Cities are determined to benefit from the attention.
The Lake Cities Lightning lacrosse league, which focuses on promoting youth lacrosse for boys and girls from first grade through high school, hopes to grow the sport throughout North Texas with the rise in interest, said league president Gerry Marshall.
The game of lacrosse originated with various Native American tribes, and was often played as a ceremonial and religious ritual to honor the “Creator.” Playing lacrosse was also believed to heal the sick, resolve conflicts and build up strong men in the tribe. The men who played took on the role of warriors during the games, and sought to bring glory and honor to themselves and their tribes through this “battle.”

Hickory Creek Parks have a lot to offer

The Town of Hickory Creek has been busy renovating its parks over the last couple of years to ensure all park guests have enjoyable experiences during their visits.
Work is usually performed or supervised by the Hickory Creek Public Works Department, but the town also utilizes volunteers in the form of Work Days, Trash Pickup Days and Eagle Scout projects. Our Tree City USA folks provide continuous tree risk inspections and maintenance, while also providing advice for proper tree care at all of our parks.
The different Eagle Scout projects include improving the new equestrian trail in Sycamore Bend Park, creating the new sign at the entrance to Sycamore Bend Park, removing brush at Point Vista Park south leg and repainting railings at Arrowhead Park.
